How to Lower your Internet, Mobile Phone, TV or Satellite Bills

I know this is a well-tread topic, but hopefully my suggestion will be something that is a new idea to try.

A few months ago, while reading my monthly Consumer Reports, I came across a mention of a company called Billshark in the context of a company that CR recommends as a way of reducing your monthly bills on certain utilities-Internet, Mobile Phones (Wireless), TV or Satellite.   Basically, you sign up with Billshark, give them your account details -and authority to contact your service provider on your behalf, and they will attempt to negotiate a lower rate for the *exact same* service you have.  In other words, you could end up paying less without downgrading your service (a game we've probably all played more than we care to think about).

If Billshark aren't successful in reducing your bill, there is no cost to you.  However, if Billshark are successful, you'll pay them 40% of your total savings (maximum two-years).  So, if Billshark save you $10 a months no your mobile phone bill for a year...you'd owe Billshark $48 (10X12X40%).    While their 'cut' is big...you are still left with 60% of your expense savings...which is still 60% more than you started with!  SO, after reading this article, I decided to reach out to Billshark to see if they could reduce my T-Mobile wireless bill.

Full disclosure:  My 'pre-Billshark' bill was $102 a month for two lines with some incredible benefits.  My plan is so old, it's not offered any longer, and until a year ago, it was only $90 a month.  I have shopped around so many times (after that rate increase) and have found that there is truly no better plan for me given what I pay and the features I have, so I had resigned myself to the new-normal of $102 a month.  So, When I reached out to Billshark, my expectations were low.  Silly me.  In barely 3 days after they had everything they needed from me to work with T-Mobile, I was informed that Billshark had negotiated $20 off of my monthly bill for a year-that's $240 LESS in total (and $144 IN MY POCKET) for their efforts.  Additionally, Billshark will automatically re-negotiate another reduction again in a year when the negotiated discount goes away.  So, the savings can continue year after year.  My monthly bill was good to begin with, but an $82 a month mobile plan (for two people) with the plan we have?!? YAHOO!

My only regret is that I wish I had other vendors they could negotiate down for me!  But, alas, I don't have Cable TV or Satellite...and currently, my Internet Service Provider isn't a vendor they will work with.   That's OK:  For the barely 15 minutes of my own effort, they put $144 back in my pocket.  I'll play this savings game any time I can.

So, what are you waiting for?  Give Billshark a ping now and see what they can do for you!  There's no downside other than a few minutes of your time! ...and if you do reach out, let me know how it goes for you!

Welcome to Queen of the Discount!

Welcome to my blog, Queen of the Discount! Why 'Queen of the Discount?' you ask?  Two reasons. First: I love a discount.  Who doesn't, right?  But, I mean I *REALLY* love a discount.  To me, getting a good discount on an expense-whether it's a discretionary purchase (like clothing or travel) or even a regular, household bill (like Energy or a household repair)- is like a sport, a hobby, a dance, a thrill-ride, and a passion all rolled into one.  And, second:  I used to work in a profession that regularly created and amplified discounts for the consumers of the brands I worked for.  ...and I loved my job.  Doing this professionally allowed me to see the 'other side' of online couponing/cash back/discount website operations, and I learned a lot in the process. I know the games that brands-and deal and discount sites play because I played those very games. This knowledge is something I've applied to my regular life, and the rest as they say is histor...

Credit Cards: When the Fees are Worth It

With the Super Bowl two weeks away, it's time to turn to that next American tradition:  Tax Season! Kidding. If, like me Tax Season is not your favorite American tradition-especially if you end up owing taxes, I feel your pain. ...and I have a suggestion you may want to consider if that is where you find yourself in the run-up to April 15:  Pay the taxes you owe with your Credit Card.  Not Kidding. It's crazy, I know.  But, bear with me.  As 70%+ of Americans have a credit card that pays some time of reward (cash back, points, etc...), this knowledge drop is for most anyone reading this post. If you're going to keep reading, there are two things you MUST do to make this play pay-off:  1.  You have to read the fine print on the IRS website to understand what the fee will be for your taxes owed to be paid by credit card and 2.  You have to read the fine print of your Credit Card to *accurately* calculate what the rewards/cash back will be on t...

Grocery Shopping Online

Like many of you, I started going my grocery shopping online during the 'Covid years'...and I personally haven't stopped doing my grocery shopping online since!  I found the time savings of the shopping itself to be considerable-no more walking the isles with my grocery list (a massive $$ saver!!!), no more standing in line to check out, no more circling the parking lot when I arrive trying to find a halfway decent parking space. This probably all saves me an average of 30 minutes every time I do a grocery shop--and certainly time IS money.   In addition to this time savings however is another substantial benefit that I've come to realize:  No more impulse buying!  No more buying because I'm hungry or have a craving, no more buying because the display looked cute.  No more buying because there was a tasty free sample.  None of it.  Now, I shop the digital coupons to see what I can save for what is on my list, shop what's on my list-plus any additi...
